Defense bonus's on armor

I was recently looked at this thread : viewtopic.php?f=4&t=67364&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=defense - and i did not want to bump it up to the top again, so I'm starting another thread.

Is the bonus (green number) gained from armor's still pure defense? or is it just an additive?

I currently have pretty average ( somewhat ) defense edwin. Most pieces are 7X and two are 8X. I am still getting hit pretty hard by the mobs around where I am leveling. I am about to switch armors and was wondering, if the defense gained from bonuses on armor is pure defense, would it be worth it to buy/make 100pdef+ normal edwin for that defense, or average 7X-8X ( I wont be able to afford 90+ ) Ench.
